How to Pick a PT Clinic
There are so many options when it comes to physical therapy. Here are a physical therapist’s recommendations for finding the right clinic for your needs.
Seek Recommendations
In addition to your physician's recommendations, seek recommendations from your family, friends, coach, and teammates. Chances are that you know someone who has had physical therapy. Ask them about their experience.
Consider Your Deductible
How many visits will you pay for, and at what rate, before you reach your deductible? Sometimes it costs less time and money to go straight to a physical therapy clinic that provides a level of care that helps you get better faster.
Consider The Location
Walk into the clinic to get a feel for the place. Know that you can get evaluated from multiple physical therapists at various clinics until you find the place that’s the right fit for you.
Ask The Right Questions
There are a ton of questions you might have about a physical therapy clinic before you sign on with one. Here are a handful of questions that you will want answers for before you pick a clinic:
How long are the physical therapy appointments?
How much of the appointment time will you be working directly with the physical therapist?
How familiar are the physical therapists with your diagnosis or area of pain?
How familiar are the physical therapists with your main activity, sport, or hobby?
Is your physical therapist someone who tends to provide manual therapy (hands on therapy), exercise, passive modalities (ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation) or a combination?
