Which joint does your (ballet) turn out come from?

This is a bit of a trick question. The thing is, we DO want our turn out to come mostly from our hip, but, the truth is that some of it comes from our knee and ankle/foot. You have to be careful when you explain this to a dancer though - you don’t want a dancer to start twist stretching their knee and ankle to gain turn out because this will just cause more serious issues.

Dancers out there - take note! Initiate and support your turn out from a stable core and engagement of those hip turn out muscles.
