Gymnastics Rehab and Performance Course

The Gymnastics Rehab & Performance Course is for rehabilitation providers (Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers) who are interested in or currently working with gymnasts. Participants will develop a better understanding of the unique aspects of gymnastics as a sport, effective evaluation of gymnasts, treatment and management of common gymnastics injuries, and how to reduce injury risk while guiding a gymnast back to sport. This course will include an introduction to the gymSAFE™ screen. Walk away feeling confident in treating gymnasts of all levels through comprehensive lectures, labs, and experience in a gymnastics training facility.

CEUs: 1.2 PT CEUs approved by CPTA
Course Objectives
Understand the sport of gymnastics including the demands of the sport, the culture, biomechanics, events, and skills
Utilize basic gymnastics terminology to improve communication with gymnasts
Effectively evaluate and treat common injuries in gymnastics
Introduction to the gymSAFE movement screen
Modify a typical sports rehabilitation program to meet the training and performance needs of gymnasts
Select appropriate and effective therapeutic exercises for gymnasts
Learn and experience Pilates-based exercises for gymnasts
Apply manual therapy approaches and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation for gymnasts
Progressively and safely return a gymnast to sport using return to sport guidelines
